Dung Beetle - World's Strongest Insect

The world's strongest insect is a type of male dung beetle which needs its power to be able to mate with females in animal faeces, British and Australian scientists said Wednesday.

Onthophagus taurus can pull 1,141 times its own body weight -- the equivalent of a 70-kilogramme (154-pound) person being able to lift 80 tonnes, the weight of six double-decker buses.

The extraordinary strength of many of the beetles is due to their unusual mating arrangements.

Even weaker members of the species have a compensating trait in evolutionary terms -- huge testicles which increase their chances of fertilising a female.

 

"Insects are well known for being able to perform amazing feats of strength and it's all on account of their curious sex lives," said Dr Rob Knell of Queen Mary, University of London, one of the researchers.

"Female beetles of this species dig tunnels under a dung pat, where males mate with them.

"If a male enters a tunnel that is already occupied by a rival, they fight by locking horns and try to push each other out."

Knell added that some male dung beetles are smaller and weaker, but do not have to fight for female attention due to their "substantially bigger testicles".

"This suggests they sneak behind the back of the other male, waiting until he's looking the other way for a chance to mate with the female," he said.

"Instead of growing super strength to fight for a female, they grow lots more sperm to increase their chances of fertilising her eggs and fathering the next generation."

World Strongest Boy World Record set by 12 year old Boy Kyle Kane

The youngster smashed the previous record by over five stone after he hoisted a 308lb weight in one clean lift. At 5ft 7ins and 10.5 stone he is already twice the size of most boys his age and has muscles to rival that of most men. 

The Coventry schoolboy broke the record for his age during a charity bodybuilding event at the Standard Triumph Club in his hometown on Sunday.

Prior to his attempt, the World Association of Benchers and Dead Lifters World Record dead lift for a 12-year-old was 236lb, set by an American youngster.


Nicknamed Little Arnie after musclemen Arnold Schwarzenegger, Kyle now trains in the gym four times a week and can shift 600lb (272kg) with his legs, 309lb (140kg) deadweight and bench-press 200lb (90kg).

He started kickboxing when he was four years-old and became a black belt by the age of nine. He began weightlifting when he was 10.

When he is not training, Kyle enjoys playing with his school friends at Grace Academy where his favourite subjects are History and PE.

His remarkable strength puts him at a huge advantage in Rugby - not to mention shot-put and javelin.
Kyle said he hopes one day to become an Olympic weightlifter and bring gold back to Britain.
He said: "I just want to be as muscley as I can be.

"Hopefully one day I can train in the Olympics or compete in the World's Strongest Man but failing that I'd like to be a professional bodybuilder like my dad.

"Other kids my age hang around the streets I like to train.

"People may think I've been pushed into weightlifting, but I wouldn't do anything I didn't want to do, I do this because I love it.

"It feels sensational to have broken a World Record, it's not something many 12-year-olds can say they've achieved.

"But this is just the beginning I want to keep breaking records and setting a new World Record every year if I can."

Kyle's World Record attempt was held in aid of The MS Therapy Centre in Coventry, which offers care and support for people with multiple sclerosis.

His father, John, said: "Kyle is so big for his age, sometimes I forget he's only 12.

"He can't even cross his legs because the muscles in his legs are so big, he eats us out of house and home and he's almost outgrown his school uniform, we're going to have buy him men's shirts soon.

"But he just loves training, he'd be in the gym every night of the week if I let him, but we have to make sure he doesn't overdo it."

A former professional bodybuilder, John, 44, has been weightlifting since he was 18 but said it won't be long before Kyle overtakes him.

He added: "I give it a year and Kyle will have beaten my record, his strength for his age is just phenomenal.

"The first time I realised just how strong Kyle actually is, was when he was 11.

"He was leg pressing in the gym and the whole gym came to a standstill and everyone just stared in amazement as he pressed 260kilos, it was unbelievable."

Pilling Coconut by Teeth World Record set by Gautam Varma India

In a bid to create a world record, Gautam Varma, a native of Patlugrama village of Karnataka's Ramnagar District peeled three coconuts with his teeth in 42 seconds here on Tuesday.

Dreaming of doing something unique in his life, Varma has been peeling coconuts with his teeth for over 15 years.

Earlier, he had made a record of pulling a Maruti 800 car by his ears.

Varma also claimed that he can climb 40 feet coconut trees holding a bicycle in his mouth, and can even balance a motorcycle for half-an-hour without holding or touching the handle.

"There is a world record of peeling 51 coconuts using the teeth. My name has been enrolled in Limca Book of Records for pulling a Maruti 800 car from my ears. I can climb a 40-feet coconut tree holding a bicycle in my mouth, said Varma.

"I can even do stunts on a running motorcycle for half-an-hour without holding it. I want to set a record in Guinness Book of Records, and for I have been practicing hard with coconuts," he added.

Green Coconut Breaking World Record by Keshab Swain

Bhubaneswar (Orissa) India, Call it outlandish or taking things easy, Orissa Government has betrayed one of the rarest talents of the State, who could broke hundreds of Green coconut by his elbow in minutes.

In various occasions he has probed this and entered his name in Limca Book of Records but the mandarins of Orissa Government yet to extend a help of hand for him or recognize his talents.

The record holder Keshab Swain, hails from Baharpur village of southern district of Ganjam,Keshab, who plans to host a show in September in State Capital, in which, he will try to set records to figure his name in Guinness Book of world Records in green coconut breaking.


For several times he urged the Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to intervene into the issue and urge for arrange a show in the the capital city.

Keshab had first set a record in January 27, 2007 by breaking 135 coconuts in 7.26 minutes by his elbow followed by he cracked 170 coconuts in 6.22 minutes in May 8, 2008.

He had also broke 72 coconuts while riding bike in 1 minute in October 2007 and on April 6, 2008, he had broke 100 coconuts in 5 minutes. His name has been figured two times in Limca Book of Records in Green coconut breaking.

Keshab alias Tophan urged various Corporate houses to sponsor his September event and provide financial support.

The Limca book of Record holder, who earns his livelihood by selling papads and training youngsters in martial arts, says the biggest regret for him is that he is yet to receive any help from State Government.

The Chief Minister should provide financial assistance for me, he added. State Energy Minister Surya Narayan Patro, who hails from Ganjam, after witnessing Keshab's miracle power, had assured to help but nothing has happened till now.

"For my September event, I have submitted a memorandum to Chief Minister Patnaik seeking his help," he added.

The Strongest Boy

This preschooler has abs – and skills – that even men three times his age can’t beat.
Giuliano Stroe, a 5-year-old boy from Romania, has gotten himself into the Guinness World Records. His feat? Hand walking. Giuliano performed the fastest-ever 10m (33 feet) hand walk with a weight ball between his legs.
The boy, who showcased his skills on an Italian TV show, has become a YouTube sensation.
Giuliano has been training since he was 2 in the town in Italy where his family lives.
“He has been going to the gym with me ever since he was born. I always took him with me when I went training,” the boy’s father, Iulian Stroe, 33, told the paper.
Stroe insists his son’s workout schedule isn’t excessive.
“He is never allowed to practice on his own. He is only a child, and if he gets tired, we go and play.”
Giuliano says his newfound celebrity has not gone to his head. He adds that he still does normal five-year-old activities like watching cartoons and painting.
